Remove an original radio in Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is a little complicated. The most complicated part would be removing the trim panel. But if you know every step well, it would be simple. The following are removal steps for a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited radio for your reference. However, you are not recommended to remove your car radio yourself if you are a green hand.
Please prepare a lever and a screwdriver for the removal. Please remove the negative cable on the vehicle battery to ensure security.
- Remove the top part of the trim panel. Insert a lever into the gaps between the top part of the trim panel and the dashboard. Pry for several times. Then, you can remove the top part of the trim panel from the dashboard. Before taking it off, disconnect the wires on the panel.
- Remove the bottom part of the trim panel. Insert a lever into the gap between the bottom part of the trim panel and the main part of the trim panel. Pry from one side to the other side. Then, you can take the bottom part of the trim panel off the dashboard.
- Remove the main part of the trim panel. There are four screws at the four corners of the main part of the trim panel. Remove them with a screwdriver and put them away. Then, use a lever to pry the gaps between the trim panel and the dashboard and take the trim panel off the dashboard gently. Please keep all the accessories well.
- Remove the radio. Unscrew the screws on the radio and take the radio out of the dash. There are wires at the back of it. Disconnect them and put the radio aside.
Now, we have removed a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited radio. Next, you should install a new unit in the car. Refer to the installation instruction and connect the new unit to the original wiring harness. Then, test the new unit.
The wires connections and installation of antennas should be correct so that all the functions can work well in the car. If you have any questions during installation, please contact the dealer for help. If everything’s good, you can install the trim panel back to its original place now.
